How to Care for Your Child’s Natural Leather and Suede Shoes

February 16, 2021

As we stated in our, “Why You Should Buy Natural Leather Shoes for Your Child” article, leather shoes are durable and easy to clean.

Here are some tips on caring for your child’s leather shoes:

  1. If your child’s shoes have mud on them, use a brush to get the dirt off.

  2. Once the mud has been removed, use a damp cloth to wipe off any remaining dirt.

  3. For extra protection, you may use leather conditioners. Before applying any conditioner, we recommend you remove the shoe laces if the shoe has any.

  4. Finally, finish with a beeswax polish. This will make the shoe look aesthetically pleasing. It also prevents the shoe from drying out.

We also provided you tips on how to care for your child’s suede shoes:

  1. Just like with natural leather, if your child’s shoes have mud on them, use a brush to get the dirt off.

  2. Once the mud has been removed, use a damp cloth to wipe off any remaining dirt.

  3. Once the shoes have dried, you may apply a liquid shoe polish (either neutral or colored)

  4. Lastly, you can use a suede brush to brush the little hairs on the shoes and remove any stains.

“No, no’s” to follow:

  1. Never use baby wipes to clean your child’s leather shoes. It will dry the leather out.

  2. Never put leather or suede shoes in the washer or dryer.

With the proper care, you can keep your little one’s leather and suede shoes looking fabulous!
